Valentin Capony
Born in 1990
Mainly works between Belgium and France.
He taught printmaking at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels.
Currently, his work is mainly focused on engraving and printing techniques, and he has won several awards.
In 2008, he began his studies at the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Saint-Étienne, France, where he received his DNAP (Diplôme national d'art plastique) degree in 2011. In 2012, he traveled to China as part of a bilateral exchange to study at the Nanjing Academy of Fine Arts. Through this exchange, he learned about the art of engraving and Chinese philosophy. In 2013, he continued his studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, where he majored in printmaking at the Thomas Amerink studio and obtained a double master's degree.
Valentin focuses his reflections on the relationship between our bodies and urban spaces and standardization work. Are we absolute strangers to ourselves? How do we capture the unstoppable movement of the world? Conversely, how do we demonstrate the intimacy that runs through them? His work is a response to these questions. Plates, stamps, and tape recorders are more than just tools; they are intermediaries that reveal imprints, superimpose bodies, and images without reducing one to another.
