Painting Professors at the Académie royale des Beaux-Arts de Liège

Stéphane Gerhards grew up in the countryside and has vivid memories of his father's garage. It was in this place that fascinated the little boy that the artist began his first sculptural experiments. He would secretly use tools to give different shapes to his toys. In his old works, one can sometimes see a tormented figure. When observing his works, he is reminded of the dreams he had as a child. Stéphane doesn't aim to entice the public, but to shake them up, to jolt them out of their comfort zones and make them feel their own anxiety. For the artist, the creative act is synonymous with exorcism. He creates to relieve his own discomfort.
