The Artist Residency Program of ADGY International Art Center is a diverse and international art residency project, specially established for talented artists. It offers an international artistic atmosphere and a brand-new on-site creation experience for artists from all over the world. On June 29, 2024, we are about to welcome the third resident artist of the year - Giuseppe Barillaro.

Artist Introduction

Giuseppe Barilaro was born in Italy in 1981. Having graduated from the Painting Department of the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma, he went on to obtain an AESS diploma and a master's degree in Plastic, Visual and Spatial Arts at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Liège, Belgium. At present, he resides and creates in Liège. He has staged numerous solo and group exhibitions.

Giuseppe's paintings carry on a long - standing pictorial tradition. He frequently portrays scenes of his own intense personal experiences or plotlines from stories that have struck a chord with him. Deeply grounded in the environment where he grew up, he has become extremely sensitive and perceptive as a result. He has also come to embrace the values inherent in that environment.

The painter "captures" certain clear images during the flow of consciousness, thus forming the relationships between completely unrelated "objects" in the painting. The relationship between each iconic image and other objects is not a deliberate combination by the painter, but rather a casual and coincidental encounter full of possibilities. This is because, for the painter, the clarity of an object as an individual far outweighs the overall integrity that the painting is intended to convey.

Art production in the era of cross-cultural globalization is a new ideology. Artists travel between different countries and cultures. The on-site experience is completely different from the artist's creation in the studio within a single cultural context. Despite the huge cultural differences between China and the West, the appeal of the Chinese art market and the attractiveness of China's development prospects have still attracted more attention.
