Jacques Charlier
Born in 1939
Lives and works in Belgium
Professor of Graphic Design at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Liège
Jacques Charlier is a humorous, hard - to - pigeonhole artist who rejects art being (too serious) and defines himself as eclectic. As a teenager, he vowed to be an artist who dabbled in everything and gave up nothing. As he constantly seeks appropriate connections between ideas and media, he tends to work in an interdisciplinary and transmedia manner. These include painting, photography, video, music, writing, sculpture, installation, comics, and advertising. His imitation of different styles and the language of the periods highlights the idiosyncrasies, contradictions, and declines of mainstream art movements. It allows the audience to constantly relive the history of art. Charlier has participated in numerous international solo and group exhibitions. His works can be found in important private and public collections in Belgium, the United States, Germany, France, and Luxembourg.
