About the artist
Born in Bilzen, Belgium in 1974, he graduated from the Liège Academy of Fine Arts in 1998. Employing vivid colors and intuitive brushstrokes, he reconstructs scenes of daily life anchored in fragments sourced from vintage lifestyle magazines. His artworks assemble diverse scales and viewpoints, subsequently deconstructing and interrogating the narrative wherein consumerism chases after happiness, unearthing the hidden facets within the so-called “ideal life”.
Within his oeuvre, the interplay between humans and objects holds equal sway. Ranging from remote controls, through furniture, to automobiles, there exists no predefined hierarchical order of symbols. The facial features and contours of the figures are culled from old magazines. Against the backdrop of his chromatic palette, these faces and outlines blend in as organically as the commonplace objects surrounding them. It is only under particular moods or postures that expansive colored areas spring to life, suffused with vitality.
