Interpretation of the work
In his “True Colors” series, the relationship between monochrome flats and nonsensical symbols in bas-relief is not a search for aesthetic harmony or the rejection of meaning. As Matisse put it, “By simplifying ideas and images, we are closer to a pleasant serenity.” Obviously, starting from subtraction, to achieve the harmony of color and image, and the simplicity of color and image, is Qu Liangchen's attitude. As a young artist, his cross-cultural background makes his vision and position unique. The most important thing is that he tries to find a kind of heartfelt observation and expression in the context of vigorous globalization, which can be parallel to the context of the times without the premise of reaction or intervention. It is as if he has withdrawn from the presence and is completely unaffected by any current state of affairs or things.
