Catherine Bardiau
Born in 1950, Catherine Bardiau is a Belgian painter. She graduated from the Painting Department of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Liège.
Ever since she was a child, Catherine was immersed in her grandfather's men's magazines and developed a fascination for fashion illustrations and sketches. Her wellsprings of creativity draw from diverse fields such as the film world, photography, architecture, design, fashion, and comic strips, with a particular penchant for those hailing from the 1950s and 1970s. In her works, she artfully situates characters within narratives, deftly incorporating elements like mystery, lighting, and shadows to heighten the visual impact. Moreover, she undertakes the ambitious task of reproducing, on a grand scale, the magnificent late - 19th - century New York architecture that has captured her heart, as well as dynamic, in - motion bodies.
To date, Catherine has crafted around a hundred artworks and has had her creations showcased in approximately twenty galleries and cultural institutions both within and beyond Belgium. Her talent has been recognized and rewarded on multiple occasions. She has been the recipient of awards twice from her hometown, the city of Huy, and in 2011, she was honored with the Prix Germeau bestowed by the city of Liège.
