[About the Exhibition]
Guy-Henri·Dacos is a full-time print artist. He firmly believes that to become a print artist, one must be highly self-disciplined and wholeheartedly dedicated to the craft. One should refrain from expending energy on other art media and use printmaking as the sole means of artistic expression.
Guy-Henri·Dacos was born in 1941 in Huy, Belgium. He held his first solo exhibition in Brussels, Belgium in 1961 and became a professor at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Liège (Belgium) in 1974. As one of the most important artists in the field of contemporary European printmaking, he holds a crucial position and wields extensive influence in academic and artistic circles. He was a prolific artist, leaving behind a vast body of works including copperplate, lithograph, offset lithograph, and screen-print prints.
Dacos' print works exhibit strong individuality and artistic characteristics in aspects such as composition, color, and lines. From the preparation and engraving of the print plate to the printing process, he endeavors to pursue the three-dimensionality of printmaking. This is not merely an understanding of the relief and indentation produced by chemical and physical effects, but also an exploration of the multi-dimensional results achieved through the continuous superposition (overprinting), juxtaposition, and pluralization of images in concept.
This time, the brand-new 1905 Art Space presents 32 print works and 12 print books created between 1966 and 1999. These print works effectively convey Dacos' viewpoints, emotions, and humanistic ideas. They bear the cultural, political, social, economic, and historical and cultural changes of that period, reflecting the social outlook, human images, and cultural atmosphere of the time. They not only possess high aesthetic value but also have a profound impact on the print art of later generations in terms of technique and creativity.

DACOS was born in Huy, Belgium in 1940. In his early years, he studied at a normal school. By chance, he developed an affinity for printmaking and entered the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Liège to specialize in it. Since then, he has dedicated his entire life to the cause of print art. In 1961, he held his first solo exhibition in Brussels. Subsequently, he held numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Belgium and across Europe. In 1974, he became a professor in the printmaking studio of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Liège, remaining active in teaching, creating, as well as popularizing and disseminating print art. His works have won multiple international awards, holding a crucial position and wielding extensive influence in academic and artistic circles. He is one of the most significant artists in the field of contemporary European printmaking. Thanks to his diligent creation, he left behind a vast quantity of works, including copperplate, lithograph, offset lithograph, and screen-print prints. Many of these works have been exhibited and collected by numerous galleries, museums, and art galleries in Europe. His creative vision was broad; he often collaborated with poets and, by combining text and images in the form of printmaking, produced art books. His uniqueness also lay in his continuous attention to major events occurring in the world we live in and his infusion of profound humanitarian sentiments into his works through a unique visual language.
